    H.S. softball: Waterford, Lyman clinch ECC divisional crowns

    East Lyme — A two-run inside-the-park home run by Lyra DeAngelis in the fifth inning was the difference as Waterford defeated East Lyme 2-1 on Friday to clinch the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball title.

    Brielle Kenny outdueled Abby Robinson on the mound for the Lancers (12-5, 5-0), scattering four hits and striking out 10.

    Robinson allowed five hits for the Vikings (8-7, 0-5) with 13 strikeouts.

    In other games:

    • Lyman Memorial erupted for 10 runs in the third inning and went on to defeat Wheeler 13-1 in six innings to capture the ECC Division IV championship. Kassidy LaTour pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 without allowing an earned run for the Bulldogs (13-3, 7-0). Natani Spears led the Lyman offense by going 3-for-4 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored while Lena-Maria Byers had two hits, two runs and two RBI and Loretta Svedarsky was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI.

    • Madi Allard was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs while Lindsey Houle struck out 10 as Stonington defeated Windham 10-2 in an ECC Division II game. Ari Scavello added two hits and scored twice while Cami Brown was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI for the Bears (11-5, 6-1), who remain atop the division and can win the title outright with a win over Griswold next week.

    • A solo home run by Aubrey Martin delivered the game’s only run as Norwich Free Academy defeated Fitch 1-0 in an ECC Division I game. Jillian Dykema pitched a five-hit shutout for NFA (12-4, 3-2) to outduel Fitch’s Charlotte Cabral, who scattered seven his and had four strikeouts. Martin finished 2-for-3 while Melina Graziano added two hits and a stole base and Melainey Tackling had a single and double. Sydney Lyon had two hits for the Falcons (9-8, 2-3), including a double.

    • Old Lyme won its 14th straight game as Emma Bayor struck out 13 in a complete-game effort during the Wildcats’ 10-1 victory over Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference. Anna Eichholz was 3-for-4 with a double and run scored for Old Lyme (16-1, 13-1) while Olivia Kelley doubled and drove in four runs, Jenna Shauder was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI and Grace Phaneuf had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
