Sun look to bounce back as they return home to face Indiana

Mohegan — The Connecticut Sun look to rebound from their first loss of the season when they host the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night in a WNBA game at Mohegan Sun Arena at 7 p.m.

The Fever, meanwhile, are coming off their first win in nearly a year, ending a WNBA-tying 20-game losing streak with a 90-87 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Sunday.

It was Indiana’s first victory since an 89-87 home win over the Chicago Sky on June 19, 2022. The Fever would go on to lose their final 18 games and first two this season.

"We're building something here, and that's going to take time," Fever head coach Christie Sides said after Sunday’s win. "This was just a huge piece for us to get this win — on the road, home opener for Atlanta, great crowd. Everyone focused on their role and did exactly what they were supposed to do. Those are the things we've been working on."

The Sun, meanwhile, will try to bounce back from Saturday’s 81-65 road loss to the New York Liberty. Connecticut (3-1) already owns a win over the Fever (1-2), opening its first season under new head coach Stephanie White with a 70-61 victory on opening night in Indianapolis.

In that game, the Sun were led by veterans DeWanna Bonner (19 points), Alyssa Thomas (18 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists) and Brionna Jones (13 points). Bonner leads Connecticut in scoring at 17.2 points per game with Thomas (14.8), Jones (13.0) and Tiffany Hayes (10.5) all averaging in double figures. Thomas is also averaging 11.3 rebounds per game.

Indiana has also had balanced scoring with Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith each averaging 15.0 points (Smith also averages 11.3 rebounds) and rookie Aliyah Boston, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 WNBA draft out of South Carolina, averaging 14.3 points during the early stages of her professional career.
