Local roundup: Old Lyme grad Brady Sheffield returns as boys’ basketball coach

Old Lyme — Brady Sheffield, a 2020 Old Lyme High School graduate and a former all-state boys’ basketball player at the school, was named the head coach of the boys’ basketball team Friday, athletic director Hildie Heck announced.

Sheffield, a guard, played for the Wildcats team which won the Shoreline Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2020 and was favored to win the Division V state championship before the postseason was canceled due to COVID-19.

Old Lyme was the 2019 runner-up in the Division V state tournament, finishing 21-6 in the best season in program history.

“His knowledge of the game and his dedication to studying it made him stand out against a very talented pool of candidates,” Heck said. “With Brady’s experiences working under Cromwell head coach John Pignone and Westbrook coach Jeff Beeman, we knew Brady would be a perfect fit. Not to mention he bleeds blue.

“As a player, Brady saw the floor and knew what needed to be done and how to make it happen in order to make everyone around him successful. I am more than confident he will do the same as our next head basketball coach.”

Sheffield was the junior varsity coach last season at Cromwell and the JV coach at Westbrook in 2022. He is the JV baseball coach at Old Lyme. He works as an account executive at the Magnolia Agency in Essex.
