    Local roundup: Schooners get past Ocean State 5-2 in NECBL

    Norwich — Bowen Baker allowed only four hits and one earned run over five innings as the Mystic Schooners defeated the Ocean State Waves 5-2 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League Monday matinee at Dodd Stadium.

    Baker, the ex-Wheeler star now attending Fairfield, walked one and struck out three for the Schooners (12-8) while Jay Allmer (Seton Hall) struck out two in the ninth to earn his sixth save.

    Landon Moran (Stetson) went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for Mystic while Evin Sullivan (Binghamton) added a single and double and Sam Kilpatrick (Bemont) had a pair of hits.

    Ocean State is 13-10-1.

    District 10 LL baseball (9-11)

    • Waterford defeated Lyme-Old Lyme 15-0 in four innings on Sunday night as Spencer Haffey was 2-for-2 with a triple, walk and two runs scored, Caleb Briggs had a single, walk and two runs and Wyatt Pinkerton and Liam Holmes each pitched two no-hit innings.

    District 10 LL baseball (8-10)

    • Waterford defeated Mystic 5-0 as Mason Mazzella was the winning pitcher, Trevor Jenkins had four strikeouts in two innings of relief and Dean Skovinski was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Neco Rose had a single and walk for Mystic.

    New London-Waterford Speedbowl

    • Todd Owen, the SK Modified points champion the last two seasons, won his first race of the 2023 season when he captured the 35-lap feature on Saturday night at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. Owen took the lead following an early restart and went on to Victory Lane with Andrew Molleur finishing second and Anthony Flannery third.

    The other feature winners Jaysin Beal (25-lap Street Stock), Evan Bourgeois (25-lap SK Light), David Dorr (25-lap Mini Stock), Isaiah Newcomb (25-lap INEX Legend Car) and Eric Williams Jr. (50-lap Compact Enduro).

    Racin resumes on Wednesday with a Wild ‘n Wacky lineup that will feature at 35-lap Super X-Car race and a 50-lap X-Cars shootout.
