Willimantic — Arielle (Cooper) Porter, who reached base safely in 75 consecutive games while batting .484 in her final two All-America seasons, has been selected for induction into the Eastern Connecticut State University Athletics Alumni Hall of Fame.

The 29th induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Betty R. Tipton Room in the ECSU Student Center.

Cooper, who won state championships at Fitch High School as both a player and coach, recently concluded her third season as head softball coach at the Coast Guard Academy, where she guided the Bears to a 31-11 record.

She resides in Groton with husband Greg Porter, a 2015 ECSU graduate.

Cooper was a four-year starting third baseman for ECSU from 2010-13, twice earning All-American honors — including first team in 2013 when was also named the ECAC and Little East Conference Player of the Year. That year she set single-season program records in batting (.538), slugging (1.076), on-base average (.629), hits (71), home runs (16), extra-base hits (34), total bases (142) and runs (61).

“Arielle has made her mark on Eastern softball — one which she deserves — and one which I believe makes her the best third baseman ever at Eastern,” ECSU head coach Diana Pepin said at the time of Cooper’s first-team All-America announcement.

Cooper helped the Warriors to a four-year overall record of 146-30, a 51-5 Little East regular-season record, four straight LEC regular-season titles, three LEC tournament championships and two trips to the NCAA Division III World Series.

Cooper still holds program career records for hits (221), runs (176), extra-base hits (91) and total bases (403), is second in batting average (.406), home runs (40), slugging (.739), games (177) and at-bats (544), and third in fielding assists (310). The season records that she set in 2013 for total bases, runs, batting, slugging and on-base percentage all remain today, and that season’s records for hits, home runs and extra-base hits remain as the second-best season marks in program history.

• Bryce Molinaro’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth scored Tyler Pettorni (double) as the New Britain Bees rallied from a 3-0 deficit over the final three innings to defeat the Norwich Sea Unicorns 4-3 in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League game. Both teams are 24-16. Dean Ferrara (Fairfield) was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI for the Sea Unicorns while Ray Leonzi (ECSU) had a single and double and Andrew Bianco (New Haven) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

NECBL

• Wheeler graduate Bowen Baker (Fairfield) pitched scattered four hits over five shutout innings as the Mystic Schooners defeated the Upper Valley Nighthawks 9-0 in the first game of a doubleheader at Dodd Stadium in Norwich. Baker did not walk a batter and struck out five in lowering his ERA to 0.73 for the Schooners (16-10). Mike Bello (Auburn) was 3-for-5 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs while Caleb Stelly (La.-Lafayette) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs and Danny Melnick (Rutgers) was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

State Babe Ruth (13-15)

• Waterford advanced to the championship round of the Connecticut Babe Ruth (13-15) tournament with a 3-0 win over Shelton in an elimination game. Matt Gonet pitched a complete-game one-hitter and Mikey Turner had two hits for Waterford, which must be host Norwalk twice to win the state title. The first game is on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Zone 6 Legion baseball

• Aiden Whitten and Sean Salvador combined to pitch a no-hitter as Waterford defated Tri-Town 7-0 in a Zone VI game. Whitten struck out six over the first five innings before Salvador pitched the final two innings. Zion Fraser and Cam McGugan had two hits apiece for Waterford with McGugan (double), Martin Light, Jackson Long and Anthony Jessuck each driving in a run during a four-run first.
