    Local roundup: Sun host Lynx on Sunday afternoon

    Mohegan — The Connecticut Sun take on the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena beginning at 1 p.m.

    The Sun (18-6) are tied with the New York Liberty for first place in the Eastern Conference and second overall to the Las Vegas Aces (22-2). Sunday’s game is on NBCSN and CBSSN.

    Connecticut is riding a three-game winning streak after road wins against the Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings. The Sun are 2-0 against the Lynx this season and host Minnesota again on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

    In the 88-83 win against the Wings on Tuesday, DeWanna Bonner (32) and Tiffany Hayes combined for 60 points. Former UConn star Napheesa Collier leads the Lynx (12-13) with 21.8 points per game.

    NECBL

    • The Mystic Schooners closed out the regular season with a 20-4 loss to the Bristol Blues in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Dodd Stadium. Jack Goodman (Pepperdine) had a double for Mystic (26-18). The Schooners open play in the NECBL playoffs on Monday.

    The Schooners lost to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 15-4 on Friday night. The Sharks led 11-0 after two innings. Drew Kron (UConn) and Evin Sullivan (Binghamton) had two hits each for Mystic and Maddix Dalena (UConn) and Sullivan each had a triple.

    State Little League (8-10)

    • District 10 champion Waterford was eliminated from the state finals on Friday in Terryville, falling to Seymour 2-1 in a losers’ bracket game. Waterford lost to South Windsor 3-0 in its opening game on July 26.

    State Little League (10-12)

    • Shelton beat Westport 7-3 in the losers’ bracket final and will face unbeaten East Lyme in the championship round at Unity Park in Trumbull. They meet on Sunday at 11 a.m., and would meet again on Monday at 6 p.m., if Shelton wins on Sunday.

    • 61st Annual Ocean Beach/John & Jessie Kelley Half Marathon — Registration is now open for the 61st Annual Ocean Beach/John & Jessie Kelley Half Marathon, scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. There is no entry fee. Runners are asked to bring a donation of much-needed food for the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. If you are not up to running a half-marathon on a hot day, please consider volunteering. Residents along the course are urged to put out water hoses to cool the runners.
