    Local colleges: Coast Guard football team sets scoring mark in 93-24 win over Anna Maria

    New London — Harrison Hensley scored four touchdowns as the Coast Guard Academy football team blasted Anna Maria 93-24 in a nonleague game on Saturday.

    The Bears (1-1) set a program record for most points scored in a game and most offensive yards with 754. The previous mark was 684 in 2007.

    Coast Guard led 35-0 after one quarter and 54-10 at halftime. Hensley scored three times in the first quarter on runs of 46 and 2 yards and caught a 44-yard pass from Joey Armentrout. He also had a 36-yard scoring run in the second quarter and finished with 103 yards rushing on seven carries.

    Armentrout completed 12 of his 19 passes for 374 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a fifth score and Broock Desta caught seven passes for 237 yards and caught scoring passes of 84 and 27 yards.

    James Wheeler IV rushed for 137 yards on 12 carries and scored a touchdown, Jacoby Hardy ran for 66 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown and Van Buhrman scored twice and picked up 40 yards on 14 carries. Coast Guard rushed for 354 yards.

    James Patz also caught a 62-yard touchdown pass and Jael Cuellar returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. Brennan Holt made all 13 of his extra-point attempts.

    The Bears’ defense forced eight turnovers, including six interceptions. Logan Morris had two interceptions and four tackles. Corvin Johnson led the Bears with five tackles.

    Volleyball

    • Connecticut College picked up a pair of 3-0 wins, beating Colby-Sawyer and Dean. Riley Lord had 17 kills, Zoe Watts had 15 kills and Natasha Shrivastava had 58 assists for the Camels (2-2) on the day. Conn beat Colby-Sawyer 25-13, 25-8, 25-10, and Dean 25-10, 25-18, 25-10.

    Men’s soccer

    • Conn College and No. 25 Tufts played to a 1-1 draw in the New England Small College Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Tufts took the lead on Xavier Canfin’s goal at 78:46 but Conn (1-0-1) tied in 38 seconds later on a goal by Sam Boehm. Peter Silvester made two saves for the Camels.

    Women’s soccer

    • No. 24 Tufts led 2-0 at halftime and held on to beat Conn College 4-3 in a NESCAC game. Kristyn Moran had a goal and an assist, Clare Mulvihill and Lauren Anastos had goal and Ella Davidyock had an assist for the Camels (1-1, 0-1). Sarah Hall (five) and Nici Scola combined for six saves for Conn.

    Field hockey

    • No. 6 Tufts scored in each period and beat Conn College 4-1 in a NESCAC game. Bridget McGann scored and Liz Winemaster made 11 saves for the Camels (0-2).

    Men’s cross country

    • Conn College finished seventh at Bryant University’s Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational. Brendan Mellitt led the Camels with an 20th-place finish (15:45) and teammate Ethan Bush was 24th (15:50).

    Women’s cross country

    • Conn College finished seventh at Bryant’s Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational. Alsacia Timmerman led the Camels with an 31st-place finish (19:13) and teammate Abby Fernald was 39th (19:18).
