    Local roundup: New London volleyball team rallies for 3-1 victory over Windham Tech

    Willimantic — The New London volleyball team picked up its first win of the season, beating Windham Tech 3-1 in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

    The Whalers (1-2) dropped the opening game 25-19 before winning 25-20, 25-16, 25-18. Serenity Lancaster had 16 digs, 14 points, 11 kills and seven aces and Nyarah Dudley had 13 points, 22 digs and eight kills to lead New London.

    New London also got 11 points, 15 digs and five aces from Cashel Jones, 10 points and four aces from Jadelise Garret, 13 digs from Raelyn Lopez and 10 points from Malahika Paulo.

    In other matches:

    • Wheeler swept Norwich Tech 26-24, 27-25, 25-17. Abby Ulrich had six kills and three aces, Lorlena Johnny had five assists and three aces and Victoria Tirado had five kills and four digs for Norwich Tech (1-2).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Ada Ellis scored five goals as Fitch beat Killingly 6-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference game. Izzy Ash had a goal, CC Zimblemann had two assists and Riley Harrington and Sophia Cabral had assists for the Falcons (2-0, 1-0).

    • Brianna Plew had two goals and two assists and Marina Lewandowski scored twice as Stonington opened ECC play with a 6-1 win over Woodstock Academy. Shay Burnside and Olivia Duhig also scored and Paige Goebel, Maeve Oakes and Charlotte Cornell had assist for the Bears (1-1). Grace Pokorny scored for Woodstock.

    H.S. swimming

    • Thelma Grogan, Seidi Schiro and Anna Kate O’Donnell won two events each as Ledyard/St. Bernard beat Old Lyme/Valley Regional/Old Saybrook 89-41. Grogan won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, Schiro won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and O’Donnell won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

    Ledyard/St. Bernard also swept the three relays with Cait McKenzie, Kerri Loughlin, Samantha Palmer and Catherine Perez teaming up with Grogan, Schiro and O’Donnell. Rose Dimmock and Sydney Doboe won events for the Old Lyme co-op.

    Men’s soccer

    • Connecticut College defeated Salve Regina 2-0 in a nonleague match. The Camels (2-0-1) took a 1-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half when Alessandro Horvath Diano settled the ball off a corner kick and drilled a shot just under the crossbar and into the net. Conn added some insurance in the 83rd minute when Elliot Spatz scored. Goalie Peter Silvester, who assisted on Spatz’s goal, made three saves to earn the shutout.

    College field hockey

    • Kendall Arnold’s third-quarter goal lifted Connecticut College to a 1-0 win over Wellesley in a nonleague game. Bridget McGann had an assist for the Camels (1-2).
