    Local roundup: Conn women finish third in UMass Dartmouth Invitational cross country meet

    Dartmouth, Mass. — The Connecticut College women’s cross country team finished third behind a pair of Division I programs at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday.

    Boston University and Stonehill finished 1-2, respectively, with the Camels finishing just five points behind Stonehill.

    Conn’s Abigail Fernald was the top Division III individual finisher, placing eighth overall in 18:07.74 over the 5k course. The Camels’ Edin Sisson finished 13th (18:26.73), Alsacia Timmerman was 15th (18:27.43), Abigail Williams was 22nd (18:38.12( and Kiera Tallas was 40th (18:57.87).

    In the men’s race, Conn placed 17th as Anthony Belford placed 8th in 26:58.05 over the 8k course and Ronan Staab was 101st (27:06.52).

    Men’s soccer

    • Conn College and Bowdoin played to a scoreless tie in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Camels (2-0-2, 0-0-2) held a 10-7 edge in shorts with goalie Peter Silvester making three saves for the clean sheet. Bowdoin is 3-0-1, 1-0-1.

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • Sawyer VanLew had a goal and an assist as Stonington captured the annual Josh Piver Tournament championship with a 3-1 win over Chariho (R.I.) on Saturday night. Sal Alessio and Mike Kennedy each added a goal, Landon Pelletier and Jace Wolfradt had assists, and goalie Nick Cannella made three saves for the Bears (2-1), who held a 12-6 edge in shots.

    • Norwich Free Academy won its first match of the season with a 7-1 win over Griswold on Saturday. Lewis Hawkins III scored three goals to lead the Wildcats (1-1) while Distefano Manrique scored twice and Jaden Jenkins and Josh Lavoie each scored a goal. Griswold is 1-2.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Victoria Sturm made four saves in goal to post her third consecutive shutout as unbeaten Waterford defeated Old Lyme 3-0 in a nonleague match on Saturday. Adyson Wiseman had a goal and two assists for the Lancers (3-0) while Paige Jessuck added one goal and one assist and Anna Waddington scored a goal.
