H.S. roundup: Vikings remain perfect, unscored upon in boys’ soccer with 3-0 win over Bears
Stonington — East Lyme scored three times in the second half and blanked Stonington 3-0 in a high school boys’ soccer game Saturday.
Gabe Delgado broke the scoreless tie with a direct kick at the 48-minute mark, followed by goals from Ryan Wargo assisted by Calloway Scott and Robert Stoddard on a penalty kick. East Lyme, 6-0 overall, is ranked seventh in the state poll for Class LL/L schools.
The Vikings, backed by three saves from Ben Johnson, remain unscored upon this season.
Nick Canella and Matteo Pancieria combined for eight saves for Stonington (4-2).
In other games:
• Noah Keenan scored the game’s only goal as Montville defeated Griswold 1-0 in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III play. Luis Salas-Montalvo assisted for the Wolves (5-1-1, 3-0-1) and goalie Adonis Santiago made three saves to earn the shutout. Aiden Plante stopped eight shots in goal for the Wolverines (1-6, 0-4).
• Goalie Jairo Ruiz earned his first career shutout to highlight New London’s 2-0 non-league win over Amistad. Jorge Alemendarez and Stouvenly Dortelus each scored a goal for the Whalers (6-2) while Niko Churis and Yovany Duenas Sanchez each had assists.
• Peyton Luther had three goals and an assist to lead Ledyard to a 6-0 victory over Norwich Free Academy. Ben Crowe added a goal and three assists for the unbeaten Colonels (6-0) while Ryan Hernandez had one goal and one assist and Niko Cayangyan scored once. NFA is 4-3.
Girls’ soccer
• Hannah Dorney scored three second-half goals as host Masuk rallied for a 3-1 non-league win over NFA. Sadie Daniewicz, assisted by Emily Tucker, scored in the first half for the Wildcats (4-2-1) and goalie Ava Boenig made eight saves.
• Glenda Zhiminaicela and Cora Deming scored for Morgan in a 2-0 victory over Montville. Katie Myjak finished with three saves for Montville (3-4-1).
Field hockey
• Isabel Gustavson scored Fitch’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Old Saybrook. Ada Ellis had the assist and goalie Esme Carlebach made nine saves for the Falcons (4-3).
