    H.S. roundup: Waterford girls avenge lone loss with 2-0 win over Bacon in ECC D-II soccer

    Colchester — Paige Jessuck scored both goals as Waterford avenged its only girls’ soccer loss of the season with a 2-0 Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II victory over Bacon Academy on Saturday morning.

    The Lancers (9-1-2, 4-1) lost to the Bobcats 1-0 on Sept. 19. The loss also snapped Bacon’s eight-game winning streak.

    After a scoreless first half, Jessuck gave Waterford the lead with 27 minutes remaining when she headed home a ball from Camryn Dickinson.

    Jessuck added an insurance goal with just 1:46 to play when she took a pass from Payton Smith and drilled a shot into the net from just outside the 18-yard mark.

    Victoria Sturm made seven saves for the Lancers to earn the shutout while Arianna Pennington stopped five shots for Bacon (8-2-1, 5-1).

    In other games:

    • Emily McKelvey scored a pair of goals in the first half and Lyman Memorial added an own goal in the second half to defeat Plainfield 3-0, avenging its only ECC Division III loss. Becca Ziegler added an assist for the Bulldogs (9-2, 5-1) and goalie Phoebe Carpenter made three saves.

    • Brooke Bolles scored the game’s only goal in the second half as Norwich Free Academy edged Old Saybrook 1-0 in a non-league game. Colbie Gisleson assisted for the Wildcats (8-2-2), who held a 19-5 shots edge, while Ava Boenig made four saves in goal.

    • Second-half goals by Morgan Blanchard and Laura Farquhar helped Killingly outlast Montville. Nicole Hudson and Jada Cheung each scored a goal for the Wolves (6-6-1), Avery Bouchey and Allie Kondash added assists and goalie Katie Myjak made seven saves.

    • Williams School scored three first-half goals and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Wooster. Brooke McGloughlin scored three goals for the Blues (4-3) while Marlee Anselmi added a pair of goals and Skylar Frost and Katelyn Harvey each had an assist.

    Boys’ soccer

    • Sal Alessio had three goals and three assists as Stonington rolled to an 8-2 victory over Woodstock Academy. Jace Wolfradt added a pair of goals for the Bears (7-5) while Mike Kennedy had a goal and an assist, Chase Donnaruma and Ethan Cabrera each scored a goal and Gustav Burke had an assist.

    • St. Bernard remained unbeaten in ECC Division IV play with a 7-2 victory over Plainfield. Luke Brannegan scored four goals for the Saints (8-3, 6-0) while Ben Syphrett, Alex Graul and Aiden Cass each scored once and goalie Jimmy Cass made five saves.

    • David Levanto scored just 2:36 into the match and Wheeler rolled to an 8-0 non-league win over Parish Hill in Chaplin. Goalie Jon Anderson, who did not make a save, added a goal for the Lions (8-4), while Brodey Pappas had one goal and one assist, Jack Dowrey and Wyatt Hayes had two assists apiece. Harrison Avery, Luke Noonan and Kieran Boscoe each scored a goal and Will Aragon had an assist.

    • Grasso Tech played Goodwin Tech to a 1-1 draw in the Connecticut Technical Conference on Friday. Damir Mangan, assisted by Noah Blewitt, scored for the early 1-0 lead before Goodwin tied the match with just three minutes remaining.

    Field hockey

    • East Lyme scored a pair of goals in the second half to defeat Fitch 2-0 in the ECC. Kate Erikson, assisted by Brielle Rheaume, scored the first goal for the Vikings (7-2-1, 7-0-1) before Callan Keefe added an unassisted goal. Goalie Emma Van Dusen stopped 10 shots for East Lyme while Esme Carlebach made nine saves for the Falcons (7-6, 6-3).
