    Local roundup: Yasmine Santos’ 28 points lifts Mitchell College

    New London -- Yasmine Santos' double-double paced the Mitchell College women's basketball team to a 68-61 non-conference win over Western Connecticut State on Wednesday afternoon.

    Santos finished with a game-high 28 points to go along with 22 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. She was 20-of-24 from the line and added three assists. Teammate Inonda Peterson added 12 points and six rebounds, and Kyrsten Lucas came off the bench to score nine points.

    The Mariners (2-2) held a 31-28 halftime lead over the Wolves (1-4).

    In the other game:

    • Army opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run and cruised from there in a 59-34 non-conference win over Connecticut College.

    The Camels (0-4) led, 12-10, after the first quarter.

    Rebecca Oberman-Levine paced Conn, which had eight players score at least one point, with 13 points and four blocks. Mia Xerras had four assists and Addi Hunter and Hayle Thompson each grabbed eight rebounds.

    Kya Smith had 18 points for the Black Knights (2-4).

    • All tickets must be purchased at the gates on Thanksgiving Day morning for the Fitch at Ledyard game at Bill Mignault Field in Ledyard. Ticket gates will open at 8:45 a.m. for the 10 a.m. game. Tickets are $10 for all spectators, adults, senior citizens and students and are cash only sales. Tickets will not be available on Go Fan and tickets are not sold in advance at either school.
