    High school roundup: Orcutt, Bolles score 17 each for NFA in 49-36 win over Bacon Academy

    Colchester — Emily Orcutt scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half and Brooke Bolles also had 17 for the Norwich Free Academy girls’ basketball team in a 49-36 victory over Bacon Academy.

    Bacon (6-3) was within seven points in the third quarter when NFA’s Neveah Yorke (13 points) beat the shock clock with a 3-point field goal and the Wildcats (5-5) led by double digits the rest of the way.

    Skyleen Schoen-Rene had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals for Bacon and Katelyn Novak 11 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.

    In other games:

    • Angelica Tompkins scored 38 points in St. Bernard’s 45-41 victory over Griswold. Abby Matheson had 20 for Griswold (1-7). St. Bernard is 5-4 with four straight wins.

    • Dre’Ana Singleton finished with 15 points and three assists and freshman Synaa Waters had 18 rebounds as Fitch edged Ledyard 43-42. Fitch (6-5) took a one-point lead at halftime by outscoring the Colonels 16-9 in the second quarter. Maggie Dykes had 18 points for Ledyard (5-4) and Helena Robinson had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Gabby Dimock and Maleeya Robbins each had 11 points for Fitch.

    • Jada Cheung scored 27 points, including three 3-pointers and 6 of 7 from the free throw line, in Montville’s 54-37 victory over Portland. Cheung scored 12 in the first quarter when Montville (6-3) got off to a 17-8 lead.

    • Lucy Walker’s 14 points and 13 rebounds lifted Waterford to a 45-31 victory over East Lyme. Freshman Lily Davis added 16 points, three steals and two assists for Waterford (2-8) and Audrey Steward had seven points and seven rebounds. Julianne Guarraia finished with seven points for East Lyme (0-11).

    • Ava Roth had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals for Old Lyme in a 44-25 loss to Cromwell and Kanon Oharu had nine points, six rebounds and two steals. Cromwell outscored Old Lyme 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 26-16 lead at halftime. Peyton Kelleher finished with 18 points for Cromwell. Old Lyme is 5-4.

    • Abby Ulrich had 12 rebounds for Norwich Tech in a 32-26 loss to Tourtellotte. Olivia Luurtsema had nine points and Autumn Hanks eight to lead the way for Norwich Tech (4-6).

    Boys’ basketball

    • Plainfield used a strong quarter to get back in the game and went on to beat Montville 64-61 on Wednesday night. Jace Kobyluck had a game-high 24 points, Jayden Sherwood had 14 points and Jace Cheung scored 12 for Montville (3-6). Brayden Rizer led Plainfield with 19 points.

    Hockey

    • Watertown/Pomperaug beat the Eastern Connecticut Eagles 5-2 on Wednesday night. Stonington’s Wyatt Verbridge scored both goals and East Lyme’s Drew Sager and Dakota Fox each had an assist for the Eagles (2-4-1).
