    Local high school roundup: Lancers go 4-0 at Ellis Tech Duals, led by Powers, Sollima

    Killingly — Devon Powers (175 pounds) and Braeden Sollima (215) each went 4-0 with four pins for the Waterford High School wrestling team Saturday at the Ellis Tech Duals, as the Lancers defeated East Haven (42-38), Terryville/Thomaston (60-23), Jonathan Law (60-23) and Middletown (39-34).

    Justin Gray had three pins at 144 and Lucas Bourez three split between 157 and 165 for the Lancers (10-6).

    In other matches:

    • Braxton Swanbeck (165 pounds) went 6-0 with six pins for Ledyard, as the Colonels finished 4-2 at the Enfield Duals. Ledyard beat Rockville (42-36), Longmeadow, Massachusetts (42-38), Rocky Hill (57-21) and Farmington (66-18), falling to Trumbull (54-30) and Enfield (57-23). Tatianna Irizarry (115 pounds) went 5-1 with five pins for the Colonels.

    • Griswold/Wheeler finished fifth (163) at the Griswold Midseason Invitational. Avon won the meet with 235 points. Seth Christie (113) and Jesus Busanet (144) finished second for the Wolverines, while Michael Capalbo finished third at 165.

    Girls’ basketball

    • Rilynn Pollard had 12 points and eight rebounds in East Lyme’s 54-10 victory over Montville, marking the Vikings’ first win of the season. Morgan Romanowicz finished with nine points and six rebounds for the Vikings (1-11), while Brouwer Kenney had eight points and freshman Cailin Delaney had eight points and six rebounds. Jada Cheung went 7-for-10 from the free throw line for Montville (6-4).

    • Emily Orcutt had 12 points to lead Norwich Free Academy in a 65-23 victory over Griswold. The Wildcats (6-5) led 24-5 after one quarter. Abby Matheson scored nine points for Griswold (1-8).

    • Meleeya Robbins had 15 points, leading four Fitch players in double figures in the Falcons’ 59-35 win over Guilford. Dre’Ana Singleton and Synaa Waters had 11 points each and Gabby Dimock 10 for Fitch (7-5). Ada Ellis led the Falcons with 10 rebounds and Singleton had four assists.

    • Eighth-ranked Simsbury finished the game on a 12-4 run to beat Bacon Academy 32-24 and remain unbeaten at 11-0. Skyelyn Schoen-Rene had 10 points for Bacon (6-4) and Katelyn Novak added six rebounds and two steals. Alexa Gallagher had five 3-pointers for 15 points for Simsbury and Amanda Gallagher was 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

    • Jenny Lopez led Lyman Memorial with 19 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in a 60-40 loss to Killingly. Killingly led 17-8 after one quarter and never trailed. Phoebe Carpenter added 14 points, six rebounds and five blocks for Lyman (6-3). Killingly had four players in double figures, led by Amayan Spadola with 15.

    • Old Lyme’s Ava Roth had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 70-32 loss to North Branford. Sybil Neary added 13 rebounds for Old Lyme (5-5).

    Boys’ basketball

    • Sophomore Kaiden Kazlauskas had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Griswold in a 72-71 victory over Stonington on Friday in an ECC Division III matchup. Sean Garvin added 20 points for Griswold (5-4, 3-0) Carmelo Curtis had 17, Kolby Mills 11 points and five assists and KinKade Rubino 12 assists. Robbie Scavello had 21 points for Stonington (6-3, 3-1) and Alex Nowak had 17.

    • Collin Schulze had 21 points, five assists and six steals in Norwich Tech’s 76-45 victory Friday over Ellis Tech. John Mastorakis came off the bench to finish with 10 points and 15 rebounds, Daniel Hess had 16 points, six rebounds and two steals and Connor McRae had 14 points, 3 rebounds and three assists for the Warriors (2-6).

    Fencing

    • Bacon Academy won a pair of boys’ epee matches, topping Griswold 7-2 and edging New London 5-4. Against New London, Bacon’s Oliver Melmed sealed the victory with a 4-3 win over New London’s Juan Colon Ortiz. Bacon’s Bennett Holloway was undefeated in the win over Griswold, outscoring his opponents 15-5. New London defeated Griswold 6-3, led by senior Benjamin Robinson, who won all three of his bouts to lead the squad to its first victory over the season. Andrew Mendez was undefeated for New London in 7-2 defeat of Griswold in boys’ foil.

    Griswold’s girls earned a pair of wins in epee, beating New London 8-1 and Bacon 6-3. Kalla Home was unbeaten for Griswold in both matches. Lily Shuman went unbeaten to lead Bacon past New London 7-2. Bacon edged New London 5-4 in the only girls’ foil match of the day. Bacon’s Charlie Galarneav sealed the win with a 5-1 victory over Nakayla Isaac. New London's Stephanie Flores-Aguilar was undefeated in the loss, outscoring her opponents 15-2.

    • Tommy Xu (foil) and Gianni Torres (epee) each went 6-0 for St. Bernard in a tri-meet against Ledyard and NFA. NFA’s Adoniz Diaz (epee) sealed the Wildcats’ 5-4 win over Ledyard with a 5-2 victory. In the girls’ match, St. Bernard senior Zhuning Gao went 6-0 as did Ledyard’s Claire Gieleghem.

    • Aidan Dupont went 6-0 on the day as Waterford boys’ epee defeated Fitch (6-3) and East Lyme (8-1). Waterford also defeated Fitch and East Lyme in girls’ epee, by scores of 5-4. East Lyme won twice each in boys’ and girls’ foil.

    Indoor track

    • Fitch’s 4x200 relay unit of Calvin McCoy, Amill Houston, Bernard Drayton and Felipe Dantas finished first in 1:36.70 at the East Coast Championships in Providence. Ryan Dunning won the 800 (2:02.51) for the Falcons.
