    Local roundup: Coast Guard falls in N.E. Duals final

    Providence — Host Johnson & Wales beat Coast Guard 16-15 in the finals of the New England Wrestling Association Duals on Sunday.

    Coast Guard advanced to the finals by beating New England College 39-8 in the first round, Roger Williams 51-0 in the quarterfinals and Carlton 18-16 in the semifinals.

    Five Coast Guard wrestlers picked up wins in the title match with Johnson & Wales. Nikko Beato (125 pounds), Nate Fitt (149), Joe Chapman (174), Coy Spooner (197) and Carl DiGiorgio (285) each won by decision.

    Men’s hockey

    • UConn beat No. 17 New Hampshire 2-1 in a Hockey East game. Ryan Tattle and Chase Bradley scored for the Huskies (10-11-2, 6-8-1) and Arsenii Sergeev made 43 saves in the victory.

    H.S. hockey

    • The Eastern CT Eagles beat Housatonic 8-0 in a Nutmeg Conference game on Saturday. Wyatt Verbridge of Stonington had three goals and East Lyme’s Drew Sager had two goals and three assists to lead the Eagles.

    Wyatt Tryba of Killingly made 15 saves for the shutout. Wade Larson (East Lyme) had a goal and an assist, Kaden Casteel (Waterford) and Nick Rembish (St. Bernard) scored goals and Dakota Fox (East Lyme), Jack Cramer (Stonington) and Lucas Vincenti (Waterford) had assists for the Eagles (3-7-1, 2-3-1).

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Devan Williams scored 31 points, 20 in the first half, as New London defeated Fairfield Prep 58-43 Saturday. New London (9-3) led 29-17 at halftime.

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Windham led 33-4 after one quarter and never looked back in a 77-37 win over Lyman Memorial on Saturday. Jenny Lopez had 14 points, five assists, seven rebounds and three steals for Lyman (7-5), which was missing starting center Phoebe Carpenter due to injury. Ayana Dillman added 13 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a block in the loss.

    H.S. wrestling

    • East Lyme’s Lincoln Carlson won the 175-pound weight class Saturday at the Colter Abely Midseason Classic in Middletown. Brayden Soleau (190) finished third, with Angel Stimson (106) and Jonathan Harms (215) placing fourth for the Vikings, who finished 13th.

    • Lance Stewart went 4-0 with four pins at 144 pounds for Fitch on Saturday at the Shoreline Scuffle at Branford. The Falcons beat Morgan (42-34), falling to Branford (64-15), Bristol Eastern (51-27) and Manchester (36-32). Marco Ursini (106), Onyx Molina (157), Dylan Beebe (190) and Brenden Vine (285) each added three wins for Fitch (3-15).

    H.S. gymnastics

    • NFA’s Trinity Ambruso finished first place on vault (9.45), balance beam (season-high 9.8) and all-around (37.15) Saturday as the Wildcats finished second with 130.65 points in a meet with Killingly (135.95) and Woodstock Academy (121.15). Allison Wojnar, Jayla Davis, Rylee Snyder, Gracyn Goodale and Morgan Sadler also contributed for the Wildcats.
