    Local roundup: Wood (22 points, 8 assists) leads Coast Guard women to win over Salve

    New London — Kira Wood had 22 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals in Coast Guard Academy’s 93-72 victory Wednesday over Salve Regina in women’s basketball game.

    Glory Blethen had 20 points for Coast Guard (18-6 overall, 7-3 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference), Dorothy Stotts had 13 points and nine assists and Kelly Hagerty had eight points and 12 rebounds.

    Briana Neary had 25 points for Salve (10-14, 3-6).

    In other games:

    • Yasmine Santos led all scorers with 37 points while also grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Mitchell College to a 72-66 win over Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game. Lyliana Daly had the first double-double of her career as she had a season-high 13 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds while Alexia Watson (11) was also in double figures for Mitchell (5-16, 3-10).

    Men’s basketball

    • Devin Owens led five players in double figures with 22 points and Rivier connected on a dozen 3-pointers as the Raiders beat Mitchell College 102-64 in a GNAC matchup. Jaylyn Clardy had 17 points for Mitchell (7-17, 4-9) while Jayeson VanBeveren added a career-high 10 points and Wilton Causey led the Mariners with seven rebounds.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Devan Williams had 30 points in New London’s 100-57 win over Bassick. Amir Hall had 11 points and Teeje Punch 10 for New London, which led 46-17 at halftime. The Whalers are 15-4.

    • Armanee Davis and Camron Barboza each had 15 points for Norwich Free Academy in an 81-63 victory over Waterford, leading five players in double figures. Parker Spencer had 14 points and Gabe Lombardi 12 for Waterford (8-11). NFA is 9-8.

    • Sophomore Kaiden Kazlauskas had 19 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots in Griswold’s 62-29 win over Plainfield. Kolby Mills had 10 points, four steals and three blocks for Griswold (11-8).

    • Eddie Fiske had 35 points and Colman Curtiss-Reardon 18 in Old Lyme’s 76-64 win over Coginchaug. Old Lyme is 12-5.

    • Charis Johnson had a team-best 26 points in Grasso Tech’s 77-66 victory over Putnam. Joey Moore chipped in 22 and Nick Stavesty 12 for Grasso (10-8).

    • Woodstock Academy finished the game on a decisive 12-4 run in a 61-51 victory over Bacon Academy. Troy Johnson had 19 points for Bacon (8-11), Theo Koutsofavas had 12 and Jace King 10.

    • Henry Champagne had 10 points and 12 rebounds for The Williams School in a 79-22 loss to Watkinson.

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Lucy Walker had 16 points and 10 rebounds as No. 8 Waterford defeated No. 9 East Lyme 58-46 in the first round of the ECC Division I girls’ basketball tournament. Waterford (8-13) advanced to the quarterfinals to meet No. 1 New London at 6 p.m. Thursday. Lily Davis added 15 points for the Lancers, including four 3-pointers, and Sadie Tiven had 12 points. Rilynn Pollard had 14 points and Juju Guarraia 10 for East Lyme (1-20).

    • Abby Matheson finished with a team-high 15 points and No. 8 Griswold advanced to the quarterfinals of the ECC Division II tournament with a 57-37 victory over No. 9 Wheeler. Kaidence Wichael added 12 points and Natalie Becotte 10 for Griswold (6-15) will meet No. 1 Stonington beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday. Hayden Bresnan (3-17) led Wheeler with 13 points and Abby Butremovic and Zoe Browne scored nine each.

    • Adrianna Hardison scored 24 points in Ledyard’s 50-44 victory over Enfield. Maggie Dykes had 15 points and four steals for Ledyard (11-9) and Helena Robinson had eight rebounds.

    • Abby O’Brien had 12 points and five rebounds and Ava Roth seven points, eight steals, four rebounds and three assists in Old Lyme’s 48-34 loss to Coginchaug. Old Lyme is 6-13.
