    Local roundup: Novak leads Bacon by Waterford in Class MM tourney

    Colchester — Katelyn Novak scored a career-high 24 points as No. 4 Bacon Academy beat No. 29 Waterford 65-44 in a first round game in the Class MM tournament on Tuesday night.

    Novak also had eight steals, seven rebounds and four assists.

    The Bobcats (17-6) will host No. 13 New Fairfield in a second round game on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Emily Ferrigno had 17 points, 11 rebounds and three steals and Cara Shea had 10 points and seven steals for Bacon.

    Waterford led 22-4 with 3:30 left in the second quarter before Bacon went on a 30-3 run. Lucy Walker had 14 for and Lily Davis scored nine for the Lancers (8-15).

    In other games:

    • Angelica Tompkins scored 26 points as No. 11 St. Bernard beat No. 22 East Granby 40-36 in the first round of the Class S tournament. Morghan Kuhn had 15 rebounds for the Saints (15-8), who play at No. 6 East Catholic in a second round game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

    • No. 15 Fitch beat No. 18 Bristol Central 62-45 in the first round of the Class L tournament. Snyaa Waters had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Gabby Dimock scored 15 with five blocks and Dre’Ana Singleton had 13 points and six steals for Fitch. The Falcons (13-10) play at No. 2 Simsbury in the second round on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

    • No. 10 Lyman Memorial beat No. 23 Capital Prep 43-28 in the first round of the Class S tournament. Lyman outscored Capital 18-0 in the third quarter to seal the win. The Bulldogs (15-8) play at No. 7 Old Saybrook in a second round game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

    Jenny Lopez had eight points, six assists, five rebounds and seven steals, Phoebe Carpenter had 12 points and 12 rebounds, Makayla Piaseczny had eight points and three steals and Emelia Heinzman scored six for Lyman.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Old Lyme lost to No. 2 Morgan 56-49 in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference tournament. Jack Porter had 13 points and Colman Curtiss-Reardon scored 11 for the No. 3 Wildcats (16-6). Ryan Donodia scored 18 and Patrick O'Neil had 17 points for Morgan.

    H.S. hockey

    • The Eastern CT Eagles lost to Branford 4-2 on Monday night. Drew Sager (East Lyme) and Will Sluggett (St. Bernard) scored goals and Wade Larson (East Lyme), Nick Rembish (St. Bernard), Jack Cramer (Stonington) and Ethan Lovetere (Bacon Academy) each had an assist. The Eagles (7-10-3) finish up the regular season with a game against Tri-Town on Friday night in Enfield.

    H.S. honors

    • Abby Ulrich and Autumn Hanks of Norwich Tech made the Connecticut Technical Conference Charter Oak Division all-star team. Melanie Hernandez of Grasso Tech was an honorable mention selection.

    • The Eastern Connecticut Conference named Wheeler High School’s Rose Tardiff as its Cheerleader of the Year and East Lyme’s Hannah Taylor as Coach of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.
