    Local roundup: Norwich Tech tops Innovation in volleyball

    Norwich — Norwich Tech beat Innovation 3-1 in a Connecticut Volleyball League match on Wednesday night.

    The Warriors (2-0, 2-0) won 25-21, 25-15, 28-30 and 25-14.

    Mason Matthews had 11 digs, seven kills, three blocks and three aces, Emerson Avery had nine assists, eight digs, two kills and two aces and Max Stimson had six aces and four digs for Norwich Tech.

    In other matches:

    • Alec Ferland and Brock Nowakowski had 17 assists and five aces each as NFA beat Cheney Tech 3-0. Keegan Johnston had nine kills for the Wildcats (2-0), who won 25-14, 25-3, 25-16.

    Men’s lacrosse

    • Mitchell College lost to Albertus Magnus 16-9 in a GNAC game. Weston Schumacher scored five goals and New London’s Keeano Gonzalez had three goals and an assist for the Mariners (0-5, 0-4).

    H.S. boys’ lacrosse

    • Griffin Neal scored three goals and had as assist as Waterford beat Woodstock Academy 7-6 in an ECC Division I game on Tuesday night. Ethan Stelik and Johan Deon scored two goals each, Darien Sherwood made nine saves and Avery Bonewicz had three assists for the Lancers (1-1, 1-1).

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Lilly Poletto, Cassidy O’Brien and Riddhi Venkatesh scored three goals each as East Lyme beat NFA 12-10 on Tuesday night in the ECC Division I and season opener for both teams. Jessica Knapp had two goals and an assist, Callan Keefe scored, Poletto had two assists and Venkatesh had an assist for the Vikings. Molly Page had five goals for NFA, Alice Rourke had three goals and an assist, Alex Tabilas had a goal and an assist and Hayleigh Young scored a goal.
