H.S. softball: Scavello’s HR lifts Stonington by East Lyme in nine innings
Stonington — Ari Scavello’s home run in the bottom of the ninth Friday lifted the Stonington High School softball team to a 9-8 win over East Lyme.
Cami Brown and Bri Plew had three hits apiece for the Bears (2-0).
Karly Sorrentino had three hits for the Vikings (0-1).
In other games:
• Freshman Maya Stimson struck out 11 and earned her first varsity win as Norwich Tech defeated Goodwin Tech 19-5 in a game shortened to five innings. Khai Maldonado had three hits and Morgan Cook scored three runs for Norwich Tech (1-1).
• Hamden scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held off New London, 7-6. Alina Skrabacz struck out 15 for the Whalers (1-2) and Nichelle Tucker drove in two runs.
• Brielle Kenney struck out 15 as Waterford defeated Griswold 12-1. Paige Jessuck and Charlotte Jessuck had three hits apiece for the Lancers (2-0). Griswold is 1-1.
• Guilford defeated Norwich Free Academy, 9-4. Madison Waltke and Hailey Smith homered for NFA (0-1).
