    H.S. baseball roundup: Santana-Liriano leads Whalers to victory

    Ledyard — Henry Santana-Liriano went 5-for-5 with two homers and drove in seven runs as New London picked up its first win of the season, beating Ledyard 12-2 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II opener for both teams on Tuesday.

    Eddie Torres went six innings for the win, allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts. Torres also had two hits and scored twice, Darius Aquino had three hits and drove in four runs and Cordell Shannon doubled and had three hits for the Whalers (1-3).

    Ethan Petrowski singled and hit a two-run homer for Ledyard (0-7).

    In other games:

    • East Lyme scored a run in the top of the seventh inning and held on to beat NFA 3-2 in an ECC Division I game. Dylan Joyce was 6.1 innings for the win, striking out 10 with three walks, and Liam Joyce struck out two to earn a save.

    Garrison Biggs doubled twice and scored two runs and Alex Dreyfus drove in two runs for East Lyme (3-2, 2-0). Conner Caulfield homered and Randy Jiminez and Caulfield had two hits each for NFA (3-3, 0-1). NFA starter Dan St. George struck out eight with two walks in 6.1 innings.

    • Dominic Pontbriant pitched a six-hitter with 15 strikeouts and one walk as Lyman Memorial beat Wheeler 5-2 in the ECC Division IV opener for both teams. Jared Russo had two hits and scored twice and Nick Chalifoux and James Hiltz had two hits each for Lyman (4-2). James Main drove in two runs for Wheeler (3-1).

    • Griswold scored nine runs in the fourth inning and went on to beat Bacon Academy 12-5 in the ECC Division III opener for both tams. Colin Mitchell’s two-run single capped the outburst and Sean Garvin got the win in relief for the Wolverines (5-2). A.J. O’Neill doubled twice and drove in a run and Noah Crowell doubled and drove in a run for Bacon (2-2).

    • Dylan Cimini pitched six strong innings and drove in two runs as Stonington beat Plainfield 7-4 in an ECC Division III game. Cimini allowed one hit and two runs with 12 strikeouts and four walks. Cimini also had a double, two RBI and scored twice, Aaron LoPresto had two hits and Austen Linicus drove in two runs for the Bears (4-2, 1-0).

    • Waterford beat Fitch 4-1 in an ECC Division I game. Matt Shampine was 3-for-4 with a double for the Lancers (5-1, 1-1). Trace Morales had the only hit for Fitch (3-2, 0-1) and Donte Valentine pitched three scoreless innings in relief.

    • Hunter Sylvia and Jack Treat had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs each as Montville beat Norwich Tech 11-1. Cam Payne scored twice for the Wolves (5-2) and Collin Schulze had two hits for Norwich Tech (1-4).

    • Cromwell beat Old Lyme 8-3 in a Shoreline Conference game. Grady Lacourciere hit a two-run homer in the third inning for the Wildcats (4-3, 4-2).
