    H.S. track roundup: Colonels (girls), Vikings (boys) earn a split

    East Lyme — Keara Opalenik won the 100-meter hurdles (18.9 seconds), the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and the triple jump (31-3.5) as the Ledyard High School girls’ track team opened the season with a 79-71 victory Wednesday over East Lyme.

    Ledyard’s Kate Littler took the 800 (2:35.3), the 1,600 (5:56.5) and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team, joining Sam Doran, Olivea Shelton and Ella Stephenson, while Trinity Cason won the javelin (95-6.5) and the long jump (15-1) for the Colonels.

    East Lyme’s Lacey-Lee Keramidas took the discus (85-2) and the pole vault (9-0).

    In other meets:

    • Tiana Bamber won the 100 (13.4), 200 (27.9) and ran a leg of the winning 4x100 relay team and Evelyn Granskog took both hurdles events for Montville in a 111-38 victory over Stonington. Montville (1-0) swept the three relays with Adeline Smith, Aubrey Axtell, Katherine Myjak and Bamber in the 4x100; Smith, Isabel Northrop, Peyton Cook and MacKenzie O’Donnell in the 4x400; and Cook, Sage Gressly, Sienna Gressly and O’Donnell in the 4x800. Peyton Vanderstreet won the 1,600 and the 3,200 for Stonington (0-2).

    • Old Lyme split in a Shoreline Conference tri-meet on Tuesday, beating Valley Regional 36.5-29 and losing to Old Saybrook (84.5). Serena Mazzi of Old Lyme won the 100 and 200, setting a school record of 12.9 in the 100. Chase Gilbert won the 800 in a school-record time of 2:15.3.

    Boys

    • Mathew Leone won the 110 hurdles (16.0), 300 hurdles (43.0) and led the 4x400 relay team to a victory (3:35.8) as East Lyme defeated Ledyard 95-45 in a battle of the ECC’s indoor track Division I (East Lyme) and Division II (Ledyard) champions. Leone was joined on the 4x400 team by Topher Regan, Maddox Grillo-Smith and Mason Hintze. The Vikings (1-0) swept the three relays. Ledyard is 0-1.

    • Calvin McCoy won the 100 (11.2), 200 (23.2) and contributed to the winning 4x100 relay team as Fitch defeated Norwich Free Academy 80-70 in an ECC Division I meet. Ryan Dunning won the 1,600 and the Falcons (2-0, 1-0) swept the long jump and triple jump and won the 4x400 relay to seal their victory. Chris Amy (shot put, discus) and Moshea Gittens Brown (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) each won two events for NFA (1-1, 1-1) and Amy broke the school record in the shot put, throwing 60- 8.5.

    • Hagen Drake won the 110 hurdles (16.7), 300 hurdles (43.5) and the triple jump (36-10.5) as Stonington defeated Montville 85-63. Dylan Bowes (high jump, long jump) also won a pair of individual events for the Bears (1-1). Enzo Valenti won the shot put and discus for Montville (0-1).

    • Old Lyme swept a Shoreline Conference tri-meet on Tuesday, beating Valley Regional 80-38.5 and Old Saybrook (21.5). Jacob Volkerts of Old Lyme won the 100 and 200, setting a school record of 22.3 in the 200.
