    Local roundup: Pointers roll to their fifth straight win

    Boston — The Avery Point baseball team extended its winning streak to five with a 20-2 win over Bunker Hill Community College on Sunday.

    Elian Collado was 4-for-4 with three RBI and Brandon Baker picked up his third win of the season for the Pointers (14-12). The game ended after eight innings on a mercy rule.

    In other games:

    • Mitchell College closed out the regular season with a 14-4 loss to Johnson & Wales. Chas Terni Jr. of Montville homered and Jack Hayes drove in two runs for the Mariners (27-10).

    College softball

    • Mitchell College closed out its regular season with a doubleheader split against Lasell. The Mariners own the opener 3-0 as Katelyn Lipsky pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks. Mitchell (16-18) scored three runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run double by Cassandra Roman of New London. Lasell won the second game 7-3. Lipsky drove in two runs in Game 2.

    H.S. baseball

    • Nick Ingraham picked up his first varsity win, pitching a three-hitter, as Waterford beat Killingly 12-1 on Saturday. Zaydin Martinez was 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored twice, Chase Linski and Harley Mish had two hits and two RBI each, Roberto Kiefer scored three runs and drove in two and Remy Coderre drove in two runs for the Lancers (8-3).

    H.S. boys’ track

    • Jacob Volkerts and Patrick Lynch of Old Lyme won titles at the Ellington Invitational on Saturday. Volkerts won the 100 in 11.13 and Lynch won the long jump in a meet record 20-feet, 8-inches. Tyler Cann was third in the shot put (46-9.5).

    H.S. girls’ track

    • Zoe Eastman-Grossel and Serena Mazzi of Old Lyme won title at the Ellington Invitational on Saturday. Eastman-Grossel won the 400 (60.98) and Mazzi took the long jump (16-2). Mazzi was also second in the 100 (13.22) and Margaret Thuma was third in the discus (100-5).

    Kaitlyn Kumpf of Wheeler was third in the 1600 (5:22) and teamed with Sophie Zichichi, Kylie Melia and Lily Vaillancourt for fourth in the 4x800 (10:52).

    H.S. crew

    • East Lyme raced in the Quinsigamond Cup Regatta on Saturday in Shrewsbury, Mass. The boys’ varsity one boat team finished third in the six-team event. The boat is coxswain, Jack Wojcik, Aiden Minogue, Kai Jolly-Ballantine, Justin Northcott, Nate Rommal, Darius Kirvelevicius, Zane Cappon, Rowan Wilson and Rowan Clark.

    The girls' varsity one boat of coxswain, Sofia Mauri, Fiona Samuelson, Olivia Brown, Elsie Jacobitz, Ryleigh Erban, Shylah Harris, Dalynn Jackson, Sophia VanDerMaelen and Katie Avery was fourth.

    Women’s track

    • Coast Guard finished third at the NEWMAC Championships on Saturday with 113 points and Allie Wildsmith and Kaylee Wright won individual titles for the Bears. Wildsmith won the high jump title for the second straight year at 5-feet, 7.25 inches) and Wright claimed her first long jump title at 18-1.

    Tara Jessen was seocnd in the heptathlon with 32,236 points, Claire Semerod was second in the 5000 (17:38.61) and third-place finishes went to Paige Phillips in the 5000 (17:44.91) and Maddie Garrigus in the pole vault (11-7.75). The 4x44 relay team of Grace Flynn, Ella Besant, Sophia White and Makenna Toop were second in 4:01.02.

    • Conn College finished eighth at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday with Alexa Estes and Grace McDonough winning titles for the Camels. Estes won the 800 in a school-record time of 2:11.66 and McDonough won the 1500 in a school-record 4:31.62.

    Also earning all-NESCAC honors were Emma Wheeler in the shot put, with a second-place finish (12 meters) and the 4x800 relay team of McDonough, LK Tucker, April Schilling and Estes, who were third at 9:28.57. Edin Sisson (5000) and Alsacia Timmerman (10,000) had fourth-place finishes.

    Men’s track

    • Coast Guard sophomore Josh Banks won the pole vault title on Saturday at the NEWMAC Championships. Banks cleared a meet-record height of 16-feet, 0.75-inches as the Bears finished fifth. Ian Naff was second in the 400 (48.79) and Ryan Weston was third in the 1500 (3:57.25).

    • Conn College finished eighth at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday. Jayson Firmin and Chris Koskinen were all-NESCAC for the Camels with second--place finishes. Firmin in the triple jump (14 meters) and Koskinen in the pole vault (4.55 meters). Brendan Mellitt (5000) and Matt Scardigno (10,000) had fourth-place finishes.
