    H.S. track roundup: East Lyme boys’ edge NFA 76-74 in ECC Division I

    East Lyme — Finian Gates and Sam Leone each won one individual event and contributed to two relay victories for the East Lyme High School boys’ track and field team Wednesday as the Vikings held off Norwich Free Academy 76-74 in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I.

    Gates won the 400 meters in 50.9 seconds and Leone took first in the 800 in 1:57.8. The pair also teamed with William Grant and Kai Ritz to win the 4x400 relay and with Ritz and Jilali Benjdid to win the 4x800.

    East Lyme (3-0, 2-0) also got wins from William Chekal in the 1,600, Sean McCauley in the 3,200 and Justin Blezard in the pole vault.

    Malachy Murray won the long jump (21-2.5), triple jump (42-2) and the 100 (11.3) for NFA (1-2, 0-2). Chris Amy won the shot put with a personal best 61-10.5, as well as taking the discus, while Moshea Gittens-Brown won both hurdles events for the Wildcats.

    In other meets:

    • Douglas Howard won the 100 (11.4), 200 (23.3) and long jump (18-11.5) as Bacon Academy defeated New London 131-19. Jay Wikarska won both hurdles events for the Bobcats, Liam Sweeney took the shot put and discus and Weston Dzwonchyk was first in the high jump and triple jump. New London’s Julius Washington was second in the high jump and long jump.

    • Parker Spencer, Brodie Scott, Noah Westkott and Gabe Lombardi took the 4x100 relay and Titus Olsen, Ian Rush, Boden Fagan and Jay Zimmermann won the 4x800 as Waterford swept a meet against Plainfield (108-41), Montville (116-33) and St. Bernard (93-56). St. Bernard edged Montville (78-71) and defeated Plainfield (92-57), while Montville also earned a win over Plainfield (92-58). Colin Britner won the 1,600, 3,200 and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay for St. Bernard, while Montville got a win from Enzo Valenti in the shot put.

    • Kenyon Morrissette and Kyle Franchi won three events each as Lyman Memorial picked up three wins on Tuesday. The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0) beat Griswold 84-66, Wheeler 120-23 and Tourtellotte 132-10 in an ECC Division IV meet. Griswold beat Tourtellotte 124-8 and Wheeler beat Tourtellotte 50-37. Morrissette won the 100 (11.4), 200 (23.3) and 400 (5.1) and Franchi won the pole vault (12-3), long jump (19-4.25) and triple jump (38-11).

    Girls

    • Kaitlyn Titus won the 100 hurdles (16.7), high jump (5-0) and triple jump (32-8) in NFA’s 103-47 victory over East Lyme in ECC Division I. Riley Davis finished first in the 200 (26.9), 400 (1:03.4) and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay for the Wildcats (3-0, 2-0). Cate Bustamante, Lauren Fulcher, Shilo Nucci and Rachel Quadrato teamed to win the 4x400 for East Lyme (0-3, 0-2).

    • Bacon Academy freshman Ashleen Walsh won the shot put (32-7.5), discus (89-5) and javelin (104-3) to lift the Bobcats to a 98-43 win over New London. Lorelei Romasanta (800, 3,200) also won multiple events for Bacon. New London’s Darielys Arnold won the long jump (17-2), 100 hurdles (17.0) and 100 dash (12.7), as well as joining teammates Jaidelis Rivera, Tatianna Pemberton and Nyarah Dudley to finish first in the 4x100 relay.

    • Lily Davis won the 100, 200 and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay as Waterford swept a meet against Plainfield (124-21), Montville (79-67) and St. Bernard (106-43). Montville defeated Plainfield (107-30) and St. Bernard (96-54), while St. Bernard also topped Plainfield (98-47). Ava Tucker, Chloe Butler and Alexa Collins joined Davis on the 4x100 team, as the Lancers won all three relays. Isabel Northrop (100 hurdles, long jump) and Kamryn Plikus (high jump, pole vault) each won two events for Montville. Vanessa Colla earned a win in the triple jump for St. Bernard.

    • Emily McKelvey won three events as Lyman Memorial earned three wins on Tuesday. The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0) beat Griswold 81-49, Wheeler 104-21 and Tourtellotte 92-33 in an ECC Division IV meet. Griswold beat Tourtellotte 78-32 and Tourtellotte beat Wheeler 54-38. McKelvey won the 100 (13.1), 200 (27.2) and 300 hurdles (51.8).
