    H.S. tennis roundup: Whalers earn a singles sweep to edge the Warriors

    Norwich — Widbery Ledoux won at No. 1, leading the New London High school girls’ tennis team to a singles sweep Friday in a 4-3 victory over Norwich Tech.

    Cashel Jones, Jayla Taylor and Nakayla Isaac also won singles matches for the Whalers (2-7). Norwich Tech (3-5) earned doubles wins from the teams of Emily Pomerleau-Zerrin Ratzer, Alexa Lopez-Makenzie Staback and Mila Ladua-Jarelis Acevedo.

    In other matches:

    • Julia Mielguj, Maddie Beaulieu, Fiza Shariff and Katie Virtue won singles matches for Fitch in a 7-0 victory over Montville. Fitch (6-2) got doubles wins from the teams of Ada Ellis-Izzy Ash, Lucy Doyle Kusy-Kelly Turley and Ava Kennedy-Abigail Malone.

    • St. Bernard’s Sasha Manzione won her No. 1 singles match in a third-set tiebreaker and the Saints finished with a 7-0 victory over NFA. Blake Murray, Meri Kambolli and Zhuning Gao also won singles matches for St. Bernard (6-2), while Theany Nguyn and Carmela Rangel picked up a win at No. 1 doubles. NFA is 3-5.

    • Claire Fenaughy won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets to lift Ledyard to a 6-1 victory over Lyman Memorial. Cassie Rice, Sarah Banach and Rachel Kulterman also won singles matches for Ledyard (6-7) and Alanah Maranzano and Lia Day captured a victory at No. 1 doubles. Teagan Wertz and Natalie Tingley won their No. 2 doubles match in three sets for Lyman (0-7).

    • Sarah Hage, Maria Hathaway, Tori Campisi and Jolina Campisi won singles matches as Waterford defeated Killingly 7-0 Thursday. Hazel Siu and Sophia Sit won their No. 1 doubles match for the Lancers (6-2).

    • Norwich Tech swept doubles play Thursday but fell to Wilcox Tech 4-3. Earning points for Norwich Tech (3-2) were the teams of Emily Pomerleau-Zerrin Ratzer, Aleza Lopez-Makenzie Stabach and Jasmine Williams-Jarelis Acevedo.

    Boys

    • Jonathan Patton and Emilia Leeming won singles matches for Williams in a 4-1 victory over Oxford Academy, giving the Blues a 3-0 week. Also winning for Williams were the doubles teams of Sadie Rotolo-Sabine Ballentine and Anna Milne-Will Corkhill.

    • Tucker Callahan, Brady O’Neil and Matt Turrisi had singles wins for Stonington in a 5-2 victory over East Lyme in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I. The unbeaten Beats (13-0, 5-0) also got doubles wins from Chase Donnarummo and Sam Lund at No. 1 and Henry Sawin and Ben Mahoney at No. 3. Sid Jain won at No. 4 singles for East Lyme (7-3, 2-3) and Keegan Stadler and Aaron Huang won at No. 2 doubles.

    • Christos Matsas, Ian Balfour and Colton Murch won singles matches for Waterford in a 5-2 victory over Fitch in ECC Division I. Waterford (9-2, 3-2) also got doubles wins from the teams of Andrew Bertrand-Arthur Dhervilly and Ethan Wang-Justin Wang. Charlie Gempp earned a singles win for Fitch (5-6, 0-5) and Morgan Fisher and Nick Sousa won a three-set match at No. 1 doubles.
