Old Lyme — The Waterford High School girls’ tennis team snapped Old Lyme’s 78-match win streak Saturday with a 4-3 victory.

It’s the first career loss for Old Lyme coach Lauren Rahr, who has led the Wildcats (12-1) to three consecutive Shoreline Conference and Class S state titles.

“Everyone played really well. We went out there and gave it our all, which is all I could ever ask for as a coach,” Rahr said. “In the end, matches like these make us stronger and show us everything we have done up until this point is truly remarkable. I hope the girls remember that and continue to grow.”

Sarah Hage and Tori Campisi won in singles for the Waterford (7-2), while Maple Siu-Bri Kilcommons and Madi Gamble-Grace Stilphen won in doubles.

Katherine Zhang and Emma Arelt won in singles for Old Lyme, while Aggie Hunt and Beatrice Hunt won in doubles.

“It’s been close,” said Rahr, herself an alum of the Waterford program. “That’s why we play Waterford and that’s why we play Stonington. We want to get better. The goal is playing these strong teams, you get these pressure situations, you’re ready for that tough scenario.”

H.S. boys’ tennis

• Nathan Dhillon and Danny Zhong won singles matches in Montville’s 5-2 win over Woodstock Academy. Doubles wins for the Wolves (9-4) went to Jack Bowman-Ryan Hochdorfer, Zack Thomas-Adam Gallagher and Gabe Vogt-Brishen Wun.

H.S. boys’ track

• Ryan Dunning of Fitch won the 800 at the Middletown Invitational with a time of 1:57.41. Ben Perry was fourth in the long jump (20-10.5) and the 4x400 team of Calvin McCoy, Bernard Drayton, Felipe Dantas and Porter Carter were fourth at 44.3.

• Jacob Volkerts of Old Lyme won the 100 at the Middletown Invitational at 10.68. Patrick Lynch was fifth in the long jump and Tyler Cann was sixth in the shot put.

• Lyman Memorial picked up a pair of wins on Friday, beating Windham Tech 78-63 and Putnam 124-16 in an ECC Division IV meet. Kenyon Morrissette and Nicholas Zaprianov were double winners for the Bulldogs (5-1, 2-0). Morrissette won the 100 (11.1) and the 200 (51.9) and Zaprianov won the 110 hurdles (16.9) and 300 hurdles (41.1). Gabriel White and Tristan Nye won two events each for Windham Tech.

H.S. girls’ track

• Zoe Eastman-Grossel was fourth in the 300 hurdles at the Middletown Invitational in a school-record 46.28. Serena Mazzi also set a school record, finishing 12th in the 200 at 26.49. And Chase Gilbert set a school record in the 800 on Friday night, finishing eighth in 2:12.85 at the Trial of Miles Invitational at Ichan Stadium in New York City.

• Fitch had a pair of fifth-place finishes at the Middletown Invitational. Hannah Thomas was fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.3) and the 4x100 team of Hannah Warner, Tahjanae Knight, Ella Braucci and Jayla Robinson were also fifth (51.40).

• Lyman Memorial beat Windham Tech 103-36 on Friday and also beat Putnam 113-17 in an ECC Division IV meet. Emily McKelvey and Laurelin Boyer won two events each for the Bulldogs (5-1, 2-0). McKelvey won the 100 (12.6) and 300 hurdles (51.2) and Boyer won the pole vault (8-6) and triple jump (27-2). Mackenzie Braunstein won three events for Windham Tech.

College baseball

• Michael Gajda went 4-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored, as top-seeded Mitchell College overcame an early five-run deficit and used a seven-run fifth inning to defeat No. 4 Colby-Sawyer 19-10 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament.

The Mariners (29-10 advanced to Sunday's pod finals, where they will face Colby-Sawyer, who beat No. 8 Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 12.8

The Chargers drew first blood in the winner's bracket game, scoring five runs in the top of the first. Mitchell answered with one run in the bottom of the first after Angel Galindez scored on a fielder's choice. The Mariners scored three more runs in the second make it a 5-4 game when Gajda belted a solo home run, before Galindez and Robbie DelaCruz of Montville laced back to back RBI singles.

Mitchell’s seven-run fifth was highlighted by a three-run homer from Cole Lalli.

Galindez, DelaCruz, and Michael Ficocelli drove in three runs each for Mitchell and DelaCruz finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored.
