    H.S. baseball/softball roundup: Stonington softball clinches the title in ECC Division III

    Stonington — Stonington High School clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III softball title with a 6-1 win over St. Bernard on Monday.

    Lindsey Houle tossed a four-hitter and struck out nine and Courtney Wise’s RBI handed the Bears (14-3, 7-0) the lead in the second inning.

    Bri Plew contributed a single and two RBI while Cami Brown had two hits and an RBI and Ari Scavello added a triple and an RBI for Stonington.

    Aubree Nygaard doubled for the Saints (9-7, 3-4).

    In other games:

    • Grace DuBrava and Karly Sorenentino each had an RBI double in a three-run first inning, as East Lyme went on to beat Fitch 6-4 in ECC Division I. Natalie Knowlton added an RBI single for the Vikings (11-6, 3-4). Grace Cosmopoulos had three hits and three RBI for Fitch (7-9, 2-4) and Jillian Fugare had a single and triple.

    • Grace Phaneuf and Anna Eichholz each went 3-for-4 to power Old Lyme past Bacon Academy 8-1. Phaneuf also had two RBI and winning pitcher Emma Bayor, who struck out 15 and allowed two hits, added a single, double and RBI for the Wildcats (12-4). The Bobcats fell to 12-5.

    • Nichelle Tucker had a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh for New London in a 7-3 loss to Windham Tech. Alina Skrabacz struck out 12 and added a hit and RBI for the Whalers (2-11).

    • Wheeler swept an ECC Division IV doubleheader from Tourtellotte, winning 21-2 and 25-0 in two shortened games. Morgyn Perkins slugged a grand slam, had a double and five RBI and Chloe Sanders had four hits and five RBI in game one. Reese Main and Addie Stanley had four hits and five RBI apiece and Sanders added three hits and five RBI in game two for the Lions (11-4, 7-0).

    • Nani Garcia went 4-for-4 with four runs scored to help power Norwich Tech to a 22-10 win over Grasso Tech in five innings. Autumn Hanks chipped in four hits and three RBI while Carden Stimson added three hits and three RBI for the Warriors (12-7). Ziana Rodrigues had a double, triple and five RBI for the Eagles (1-11) and Emma Pavlak had two hits and two RBI.

    Baseball

    • Rowen Meisner chipped in two doubles and four RBI in Old Lyme’s 12-4 win over New London. Jordan Hanes had a single, double and scored two runs for the Wildcats (9-8) and Aidan Carpentino had two hits. Eddie Torres went 3-for-3 with a triple and two stolen bases for New London (5-12).

    • Desmond Powers scattered seven hits and struck out six over 6.1 innings as St. Bernard defeated Lyman Memorial 12-7 at Dodd Stadium. Powers also led the offense, finishing 5-for-5 with four RBI. Kevin Poeschl had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored for St. Bernard (12-4). Nick Chalifoux was 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Lyman (13-5).

    • Andrew Ferrigno and Chris Lusignan each had singles to account for Bacon Academy’s only hits in a 4-1 loss to Cambridge Rindge & Latin at Dodd Stadium. Cambridge, which is coached by former Bacon catcher Robert “Buck” Merrill, scored all of its runs in the first inning. Reliever Mason Pingree struck out 10 in four innings for the Bobcats (8-8).

    • Stonington scored three runs in the first inning to take an early lead before falling to Westerly 5-4. Aaron LoPresto went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Bears (11-6) and Jace Wolfradt and Camden Ogden each added an RBI.
