    High school baseball/softball roundup: Pontbriant pitches the Bulldogs to a first-place finish

    Putnam — Dominic Pontbriant threw a three-hitter, striking out 12 in a complete game effort, and Lyman Memorial clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV baseball title with a 9-1 victory over Putnam on Tuesday.

    Pontbriant also chipped in three hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs, who improved 14-5 overall, 8-0 in the division.

    Connor Hawkins had a single, double and two RBI.

    In other games:

    • Chris Lusignan had three home runs, including a grand slam, and eight RBI and Bacon Academy scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Stonington 12-11 in ECC Division III. Elias Chiaverini added three hits, including the game-winning two-run single, and three RBI for the Bobcats (9-8, 3-4), who trailed 11-5 in the fifth before rallying. Wyatt Verbridge had a single, home run and three RBI for the Bears (11-7, 5-3).

    • Andrew Hardin and winning pitcher Kymani Boyce each had a double and two RBI, leading Griswold past Montville 8-2 in ECC Division III. The Wolverines are 12-6, 5-2. Cole Terni had two hits and RBI for the Wolves (13-5, 4-3).

    • Norwich Free Academy qualified for state tournament play with a 9-1 win over Ledyard. Randy Jimenez had three hits while Ayden Kempesta and Hunter Rathbun pitched well for the Wildcats (8-10), allowing a combined four hits and one unearned run. The Colonels fell to 1-17.

    • Matt Shampine and Zaydin Martinez each had a single in Waterford’s 5-1 loss to Woodstock in ECC Division I. The Lancers fell to 11-6, 2-5.

    On Monday, Quinn Speller was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI, Max Petrini was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Roberto Kiefer was 2-for-4 with two RBI in Waterford’s 14-2 victory over Cromwell. Alex Picardi added two hits, two runs and two RBI and Colby Sheehan improved to 3-1, allowing four hits and striking out six with no walks.

    • Rowen Meisner’s RBI single in the first inning accounted for the only run for Old Lyme in a 2-1 loss to North Branford in the Shoreline Conference. Jack Porter had two hits for the Wildcats (9-9, 7-6).

    • Reis Whitfield hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday for Grasso Tech in a 16-5 loss to RHAM. The Eagles scored all five runs on four hits in the fifth. PJ Evans and Daniel Lindy added RBI singles.

    Softball

    • Waterford clinched the ECC Division I title with a 7-3 win over NFA. Grace Muti had a single, solo home run and two RBI for the Lancers (13-5, 6-1) and Gabby Fontaine and Ava Waddington each had two hits and an RBI.

    • East Lyme’s four-run fourth inning carried the Vikings to a 4-1 ECC Division I win over Woodstock Academy. Natalie Knowlton’s two-run double broke the scoreless tie and winning pitcher Abby Robinson tossed a three-hitter and struck out 21 for the Vikings (12-6, 4-4).

    • Every player in the Griswold lineup had a hit in a 15-2 win over Plainfield in a Division III game that went six innings. Summer McLean, Kierra Nelson, Ari Pedraza, Bella Bruno and Elaina Conrad had two hits apiece for the Wolverines (14-4, 4-2).

    • Cami Brown had three hits, an RBI and scored three runs in Stonington’s 10-2 win over Branford. Shelby Mayo had two hits and two RBI while Ari Scavello and Janiya Aleman each added two hits and an RBI for the Bears (15-3).

    • Wheeler scored four runs in the eighth inning to beat Ledyard 12-8. Victoria Kleeman had two hits and three RBI while Reese Main added three hits and two RBI and Abby Butremovic and Isabella Deledda had two hits and two RBI apiece for the Lions (12-4). Mia Starling, Aleecia Helme and Lexi Lemmon had three hits each for Ledyard (11-7).

    • Alina Skrabacz tossed a two-hitter, striking out 14 and walking one, in New London’s 10-1 win over Ellis Tech. Alanna Noonan had two hits and three RBI while Nichelle Tucker and Valery Capa Avenado each had two hits and an RBI for the Whalers (3-11), who broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning.

    • Payton Jones had a solo home run, a single, an RBI and scored two runs for Montville in a 4-3 win over St. Bernard. Amanda Corrice had two hits and an RBI for the Wolves. Angelica Tompkins had a solo home run and Sunny Rangel had a hit and RBI for the Saints.

    • Emma Bayor pitched a no-hitter, striking out eight and walking three, in Old Lyme’s 1-0 shutout of Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference. Sybil Neary had a single, double and an RBI for the Wildcats (13-4, 10-2) and Anna Eichholz had a single and scored a run.
