Big Dance Theater performs at Conn College
Expect the unexpected from Big Dance Theater.
Unless, that is, you expect dance-theater pieces that reimagine the plays of dramatists Chekhov and Ionesco. Or that mix John Cage stories with intricate choreography.
Those two wildly creative works — “The Road Awaits Us” and “Cage Shuffle” — will be performed Friday at Connecticut College.
Big Dance Theater is a collaboration between choreographer Annie-B Parson and performance artist Paul Lazar that melds dance, music, text and visual design.
Big Dance Theater won the first Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award in 2007. And the BDT team was invited to create a commission featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov in 2013. The resulting piece, “Man in a Case,” had successful runs at several theaters around the country, including at Hartford Stage.
