I love that Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo bills itself as “the world's foremost gender-skewering comic ballet company, parodying the conventions of romantic and classical ballet.” Can there really be much competition for that title?

Regardless, Les Ballets Trockadero is pretty darned good and pretty darned funny.

The group, which performs Tuesday at the Garde Arts Center, began in 1974, when they danced in late-late shows in New York City. But the Trocks, as fans call them, became a hit. This collection of professional male dancers parody the conventions of romantic and classical ballet.

The company notes that the world “is catching up with their once highly-subversive viewpoint, allowing their style of ballet to be viewed simply as … sheer entertainment.”

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $40 to $72 plus fees; gardearts.org, (860) 444-7373.
