The musical “Swingtime Canteen” is set in 1944 in a USO canteen.

That’s where, according to the Ivoryton Playhouse, “soldiers and civilians alike gather to find solace, laughter, and the joy of music amidst the chaos of war.”

The show boasts familiar tunes from that era, including "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "I'll Be Seeing You.” It begins its run at the Ivoryton Thursday and continues through June 19.

“Swingtime Canteen” is directed by Amy Jones, who was in the cast of the original Off-Broadway production.

The all-female cast of actor-musicians consists of Marcia McGuigan, Katie Barton, Caitlin Witty, Claire Marie Spencer’ and Claire-Frances Sullivan. Also featured are Mallory Kokus on reeds, Kim Bonsanti on trumpet, and Jordan Brint on the bass.

    “Swingtime Canteen,” Thurs.-June 19, Ivoryton Playhouse, 103 Main St., Ivoryton; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wed., 7:30 p.m. Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., and 2 p.m. Sun.; also 2 p.m. May 24 and June 4; $60 for adults, $55 for seniors, and $25 for students; ivorytonplayhouse.org, (860) 767-7318.
