    Centuries-old skull to be reburied

MILFORD (AP) — A centuries-old skull suspected to be that of a Revolutionary War soldier who died in Connecticut will be reburied with full military honors.

Experts say it was from a man of European descent who was between 25 and 35 years old.

It was discovered in the 1840s when railroad tracks were being laid near a spot in Milford where 46 soldiers died of smallpox, after their British captors dropped them off by boat in 1777 after the Battle of New York.

The skull traveled between historians, archaeologists and other experts until this month, when the Smithsonian Institute returned it to Connecticut State Archaeologist Nicholas Bellantoni.

It will be buried Saturday near Milford's Revolutionary War monument after a service with full military honors.
