UConn makes 3 arrests at start of Spring Weekend

Storrs (AP) — University of Connecticut police say they have made three arrests at the kick-off of the annual Spring Weekend.

Police said the arrests Thursday night and early Friday morning were for allegations of driving under the influence, marijuana offenses and other charges. UConn says that's down from eight arrests last year.

State police also arrested a man accused of assaulting a female student.

The university announced early this week it will block or limit access to certain roads, parking lots and pathways on and around campus to tamp down violence and other problems that plagued previous Spring Weekend events.

School officials advised non-students to avoid Storrs during the weekend.

In addition, they said guests are barred from residence halls during those three days and dining halls will not admit non-students.
