DEEP to use Facebook to get word out about state conservation

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Natural Resources now has a Facebook site, www.facebook.com/CTFishandWildlife.

The page features a variety of information on fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching in Connecticut. Links to upcoming events, weekly fishing reports, natural history and conservation information on the state’s fish and wildlife species, and ways to contact the Bureau of Natural Resources can be found on the site.

“Facebook is a valuable way to communicate with those who have an interest in Connecticut’s fish and wildlife resources, whether they like to hunt, fish, observe wildlife, or photograph wildlife,” said DEEP Deputy Commissioner Susan Frechette. “We are using Facebook, along with other outreach tools, such as the DEEP website and Connecticut Wildlife magazine, to get the word out about all of the interesting and important conservation projects and activities of the DEEP Bureau of Natural Resources.”

Visitors to the page can “like” the page so that they have instant access to up-to-date information. The page also provides an opportunity for “fans” to post their fish and wildlife photos and to ask questions and make comments. Additional information about Connecticut’s fish, wildlife, and forests can also be found at: www.ct.gov/deep/fishing; www.ct.gov/deep/saltwaterfishing; www.ct.gov/deep/wildlife, and www.ct.gov/deep/forestry.

The Facebook page is one of several offered by the DEEP. The others include: www.facebook.com/CTDEEP; www.facebook.com/BoatingInConnecticut; www.facebook.com/CTStateParks www.facebook.com/CTStateParkLifeguards; www.facebook.com/CTRecycles.

DEEP also maintains Twitter accounts on its three shoreline parks, Hammonasset, Rocky Neck and Sherwood Island. Information is posted there about events and activities occurring at the parks and nature centers, updates on closings when the parks reach capacity, traffic conditions, water quality reports and projects at the parks. The sites can be reached at: Twitter.com/CThammonasset / @CThammonasset; Twitter.com/CTrockyneck / @CTrockyneck; and Twitter.com/CTsherwoodislnd / @CTsherwoodislnd.
