Conn. gun rights activists rally at state Capitol

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gun rights activists are rallying at Connecticut's Capitol.

The Connecticut Citizens Defense League is sponsoring the event, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on the north grounds.

CCDL said the rally is being held to unite gun owners across the state and lay out plans to challenge the new gun control legislation recently passed by the Connecticut General Assembly after the Newtown school shooting. Among other things, the law expands Connecticut's assault weapons ban and bans large capacity ammunition magazines.

CCDL, the National Rifle Association and Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen are joining forces to challenge the law in court.

John Lott Jr., author of the book "More Guns Less Crimes," is among the Second Amendment activists scheduled to speak at the rally.
