Hartford (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved Connecticut's plan to spend nearly $72 million in federal aid to help the state rebuild after Superstorm Sandy.

With the approval, Malloy said Friday that the state's Department of Housing can implement its action plan to help individuals, families, small businesses and others affected by the massive storm that hit Connecticut in October.

The largest portion of the money, $30 million, will help homeowners repair damage, while $26 million will be spent on rehabilitating and rebuilding low- and moderate-income multi-family homes. There is also $4 million set aside for businesses, $4 million to address infrastructure needs, $2.2 million for public building repairs and $2 million for planning needs.
