Hartford (AP) — School across Connecticut can compete for $10 million in state funds to help bring more computers into classrooms and increase Internet bandwidth capacity.

Districts have until Aug. 12 to submit their proposals for the competitive technology grant.

Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor said Monday local districts have been working to align their classroom instruction with the state's Common Core State Standards for the 2014-15 school year. Every district is at a different stage in the process. Pryor said this grant will help the districts achieve technological readiness before the standards are implemented statewide.

Students are expected to use computers to take assessments based on the Common Core Standards.

Awards from the grant program must be used to buy new computing devices or to increase inter-school bandwidth or inter-district bandwidth.
