Hartford dispatcher placed on leave over epithet

Hartford (AP) — A Hartford police dispatcher has been placed on administrative leave after using a racial epithet in a radio transmission.

Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra says he made the decision after listening to a recording of the transmission, which was made Monday. He says he has no tolerance for the use of the word in question.

The dispatcher's name has not been released.

The mayor's decision comes despite an internal review that found the dispatcher had simply mispronounced the word "neighbor" and quickly corrected himself.
