State Police: Man at center of standoff dies

New Britain (AP) — Connecticut State Police say a man at the center of a standoff in New Britain has died after a stun gun was used to end the stalemate.

State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance says that as officers brought the unidentified man down the stairs of the apartment building where the standoff began Monday night, he had difficulty breathing and suffered a possible cardiac arrest.

He was declared dead at New Britain General Hospital at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were called to the building at about 7 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of an unruly person. Witnesses said the man threw a lamp and other objects from the apartment window and threatened to jump if police entered the building.
