US health data program off-line, affecting Connecticut

Hartford (AP) — A federal data program has been knocked off-line, holding up determinations on Medicaid enrollment and tax credit subsidies for Connecticut's health insurance exchange.

Kathleen Tallarita, spokeswoman for Access Health CT, the state marketplace's website, said Sunday night that the application and enrollment system on HealthCare.gov and Data Services Hub failed. She said the cause was a networking component.

Planned maintenance to replace the component brought down the network's connection to the data center.

Connecticut, which is running its own exchange rather than defer to the federal government, has enrolled residents in health insurance policies

The state has signed up 3,847 individuals for coverage through Access Health CT between Oct. 1 and Oct. 15.

Republicans and Democrats in Congress have criticized the Obama administration for the troubled start of its health care website.
