Branford police probe officer's Facebook posts

Branford (AP) — Branford police have launched an internal affairs investigation into an officer's Facebook postings during an exchange with gun rights activists.

Police told the New Haven Register they're looking at whether Officer Joe Peterson violated any department policies in the exchange with Branford gun rights advocate John Cinque and other people.

The newspaper reports Peterson wrote in an off-duty posting that he would give part of his genitals to "bang down your door and come for your gun."

The comment apparently was in response to a posting by another man, Cameron Smith, who wrote Peterson "would round up Jews and put them in ghettos, if the government told him to."

Peterson is on worker's compensation leave after a police cruiser accident. A phone listing for him wasn't in service Wednesday.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
