Connecticut teen seeks OK for 21-year-old prom date

Torrington (AP) — A Connecticut teenager is appealing to her local Board of Education after school officials rejected her request to bring her 21-year-old boyfriend to her prom.

Eighteen-year-old Torrington High School senior Mikayla Perlotto and her mother, Donna, urged the school board Wednesday night to intervene. She also argued her case in a Facebook posting this week.

The board took no action, but School Superintendent Cheryl Kloczko agreed to meet with Perlotto's boyfriend, Ethan Gleason, before making a final decision on whether he can attend next month's prom. Gleason will turn 22 before the event.

High school officials rejected Perlotto's request earlier this month, citing concerns that Gleason is of legal drinking age. But officials acknowledge there's no official prom age policy.

Perlotto faces a May 1 deadline to buy prom tickets.
