Hurricane Ian remnants knock out power in some Conn. towns

Hundreds of households across Connecticut are without power as the remnants of Hurricane Ian bring rain and stiff winds to the region.

Nearly 1,500 customers are without power as of 4 p.m., according to Eversource and the United Illuminating Co., the two power companies that service much of the state.

In Weston, 422 households — or nearly 11 percent of customers in the Fairfield County town — are without power, according to Eversource.

Mansfield and Coventry, a pair of neighboring towns in Tolland County, have 354 and 125 customers without power, respectively.

Power has gradually been restored to some localities. Earlier in the day Eversource reported 194 outages in Stamford, but later reported just three outages.

It is unclear when power may be restored to all customers. An Eversource spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The National Weather Service recorded wind speeds greater than 20 mph in much of the state Sunday and has issued a coastal flood advisory for southern Fairfield County.
