3 found dead at home from suspected fentanyl overdoses, police say

STAMFORD — City police say three people were found dead from a suspected fentanyl overdose at a home in Stamford's Glenbrook area Thursday night.

Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said a worker arrived at a Scofield Avenue rental home around 5 p.m. for a job when he found what appeared to be a woman suffering from an overdose in the home's basement.

Conklin said police, firefighters and emergency workers responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead.

A later search of the home revealed two men dead in the first-floor kitchen, according to Conklin.

Conklin said both men, who were from Stamford, were in their mid-30s. The woman, whose last address is still unknown, was about 30 years old, Conklin said.

Police have yet to release the victim's identities.

While the causes of death have yet to be officially determined by the state medical examiner, Conklin said preliminary examinations led investigators to suspect all were related to fentanyl overdoses due to a "white, powdery substance" that was recovered on scene.

"We want to get this out to the community out of an abundance of caution because of how dangerous this drug fentanyl is," Conklin said.

The three deaths are under investigation by the Stamford Police Department's Major Crimes Unit.
