Report: Derby official attended, 'walked in,' during Jan. 6 riot at U.S. Capitol

DERBY — A Derby alderman attended the Jan. 6 rally and riot at the U.S. Capitol building, according to a report.

Gino DiGiovanni Jr., 41, told NBC Connecticut that he had joined the gathering after then-President Donald Trump's remarks at the nearby "Stop the Steal" event.

Surveillance footage "indicated DiGiovanni entered the Upper West Terrace door of the Capitol around 2:38 p.m., shortly after people inside the Capitol walked out that door, and people held it open for others," according to the report.

DiGiovanni said he was there, but saw no violence, and said he believed there were "discrepancies" in the 2020 election, according to the report.

DiGiovanni has not been charged in connection with his alleged actions, according to the report. A message seeking comment was left with DiGiovanni on Saturday morning.
