Wrong-way driver charged with DUI in Seymour

A man was charged with being under the influence of alcohol or drugs while driving the wrong way on Route 8 in Seymour on Saturday morning.

Police responded to reports of a wrong-way driver near Exit 21 about 4:26 a.m. and spotted a light blue 2010 Lexus RX driving north in the southbound lane, according to Connecticut State Police.

The driver, 37-year-old Brian Morrison of Watertown, appeared disoriented and did not know he’d been driving the wrong way, police said.

Officers allegedly smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery, police said.

Morrison failed a sobriety test, police said, and was taken to CSP Troop I in Bethany and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Derby on Jan. 9, 2023 records show.
