State police responded to 4,875 calls over holiday weekend

While the total number calls for service decreased compared to last year, state police were busy over the long New Year's weekend.

From midnight Dec. 30 to 11:59 p.m. Monday, state police reported 4,875 calls for service, compared to 5,159 calls reported in 2002.

State police responded to 243 accidents and made 36 DUI arrests, the exact numbers reported last year.

Speeding violations increased from 352 to 396 and motorist assists increased from 195 to 395.

Though there were no reported fatalities this year, state police said, there were 20 accidents with reported injuries, compared to 25 over the 2022 New Year's weekend.
