Plainville teacher on leave after child porn investigation at her home, officials say

Plainville — A local teacher has been placed on paid leave after police searched her home looking for evidence in a child pornography case, according to a school official.

Steven LePage, superintendent of schools, wrote a note to parents saying police executed a search warrant at the middle school teacher's Plainville home.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending additional information," the note states. He said he has "limited facts" about the investigation.

Plainville Police Lt. Nicholas Mullins said the woman is not the focus of the investigation, which had not led to arrests as of Tuesday afternoon.

"At this point, we do not have any reason to believe she was involved," he said.

Police arrived in the Metacomet Road neighborhood Monday morning. Search warrant in hand, investigators went into the house on Seneca Road and emerged with computers and other electronics. They were there for about five hours, Mullins said.

It will take some time to go through the electronic devices in search of evidence, he said. He did not release details about the case.

No one at the central offices of Plainville Community School District returned calls seeking comment Tuesday.

"There's just nobody who's going to be commenting. Thanks for your time," a staff member at the middle school said before hanging up.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
