Danbury veterans, Stew Leonard's pack Memorial Day free meals for vets in need

DANBURY — Local veterans joined Stew Leonard's on Friday afternoon to pack hundreds of free dinners for veterans and their families in honor of Memorial Day weekend.

Veterans with the American Legion Post 60 in Danbury participated in the event, which is part of the "Stew's For Soldiers" campaign to feed up to 5,600 people across Stew's seven tri-state locations, according to the grocery chain.

The volunteers assembled the holiday dinners, which were to be delivered to local veterans in need throughout the region. Each dinner feeds eight people and contains pulled pork, BBQ'd chicken, Stew Leonard's Hawaiian Rolls, ranchers' baked beans, macaroni salad, potato salad, and coleslaw.
