Man found with 370 sleeves of fentanyl, semiautomatic pistol during traffic stop

A New Britain man was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison on firearm and drug charges.

Thomas Rivera, 30, received the sentence — which will be followed by four years of supervised release — in federal court in New Haven, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Federal officials said Rivera was pulled over by Hartford police on June 3, 2022, and found with a bag containing about 140 grams of fentanyl, 370 sleeves of fentanyl, a loaded 9mm semiautomatic pistol with a 15-round magazine and $1,323.

At the time, Rivera was arrested on state charges, officials said. He was charged federally in August 2022 before pleading guilty on Jan. 9 to one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
