State trooper injured by wrong-way driver on I-91 in Cromwell

A wrong-way driver struck a Connecticut State Police cruiser, injuring a trooper, and kept driving early Sunday on Interstate 91 North in Cromwell,  police said.

A trooper from CSP Troop H Hartford was driving on I-91 North about 4:56 a.m. when he spotted a vehicle driving the wrong way and trying to exit the interstate onto the Route 9 North on-ramp by driving through the grass median, state police said.

The trooper tried to pull the driver over to stop them from driving south in the northbound lanes of Route 9 but the driver struck the trooper’s vehicle, according to state police.

The trooper suffered minor injuries and the vehicle was disabled, state police said.

No further information was immediately available as police were still investigating.
